Saritha Chary-Reddy, DDS, PhD

Dr. Saritha Chary-Reddy is a board-certified orthodontist and Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics with more than 21 years of experience providing orthodontic treatment for children, teens and adults. Since beginning her orthodontic career and opening her San Antonio practice in 2005, Dr. Reddy has completed more than 15,000 orthodontic cases, including more than 13,000 traditional braces cases and 5,000 Invisalign® cases.

Her clinical experience spans comprehensive orthodontics, braces, clear aligner treatment, early orthodontics, dentofacial orthopedics, complex bite correction, surgical orthodontics, retention and other advanced orthodontic care. As the sole orthodontist in the practice, Dr. Reddy personally oversees the orthodontic treatment provided to her patients and develops individualized treatment plans based on each patient’s age, facial balance, orthodontic needs, treatment goals and preferences.

Dr. Reddy earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery with distinction from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 2002. During dental school, she demonstrated a strong commitment to providing dental care to underprivileged families. She also holds a doctoral degree in genetics, and her research contributed to several peer-reviewed publications and earned her the Young Scientist Award for her doctoral thesis.

She went on to specialize in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, completing her orthodontic residency in 2005. During her specialty training, her research focused on genetic disorders related to dental and facial anomalies and earned her the Best Scientific Presentation Award.

Dr. Reddy is board certified in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics by the American Board of Orthodontics and holds the distinction of Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. Her board-certification training included the clinical documentation and evaluation required as part of the certification process.

A Personalized Approach to Orthodontic Care

Dr. Reddy does not believe in a cookie-cutter approach to orthodontics. Every case receives a customized treatment plan based on the individual patient, the complexity of the orthodontic problem, facial balance, age, treatment goals, preferences and compliance considerations.

Her practice combines more than 21 years of orthodontic experience, more than 15,000 completed orthodontic cases, board certification, advanced digital technology, ongoing continuing education and extensive experience with both conventional and complex orthodontic treatment.

Whether treating a child with developing jaw imbalance, a teenager considering braces or clear aligners, an adult seeking Invisalign treatment, or a patient requiring complex surgical orthodontics, Dr. Reddy personally directs the treatment-planning process with the goal of providing individualized, clinically appropriate orthodontic care.

Extensive Orthodontic Experience

During more than two decades in orthodontic practice, Dr. Reddy has treated a broad range of orthodontic conditions, from routine alignment concerns to difficult bite, jaw-development and surgical cases. Her reported clinical experience includes more than 15,000 completed orthodontic cases overall, approximately 13,000 traditional braces cases and approximately 5,000 Invisalign cases.

She treats children, teens and adults and regularly manages patients with crowding, spacing, overbites, underbites, crossbites, protruding teeth, jaw discrepancies and other orthodontic abnormalities. She also accepts patients seeking second opinions, patients transferring from other orthodontic practices and patients who require retreatment after previous braces or clear aligner therapy.

Dr. Reddy has extensive experience with fixed orthodontic appliances and currently offers multiple braces options, including Meta braces, clear Radiance™ brackets, gold braces, Signature Collection WildSmiles® braces and Damon™ braces.

For patients who prefer removable orthodontic treatment, she provides multiple clear aligner systems, including Invisalign®, Spark™ Aligners, Angel Aligner™ and VK In-Office Clear Aligners. Treatment recommendations are customized rather than based on a single system or “one-size-fits-all” approach.

Invisalign and In-Office Clear Aligners

Dr. Reddy has treated over 5,000 Invisalign cases and provides clear aligner treatment for both teens and adults.

VV Orthodontics also has the capability to create VK In-Office Clear Aligners within the practice. The process — from digital scanning and treatment design through fabrication of the aligners — is completed in-house. Dr. Reddy is personally involved in the digital setup of these cases.

Cases that can be treated with Invisalign may also be considered for our in-office aligner system, including selected extraction and surgical cases when clinically appropriate. Treatment selection depends on factors such as the complexity of the orthodontic problem, the patient’s age, preferences and ability to comply with treatment.

Early Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics

Dr. Reddy provides both Phase One early orthodontic treatment and comprehensive Phase Two orthodontic care. She evaluates children as young as age six and regularly assesses developing dental and jaw relationships for concerns that may benefit from early intervention.

Conditions she evaluates and treats include crossbites, protruding front teeth, crowding, excessive spacing, a retrusive or underdeveloped upper jaw and other dentofacial imbalances.

Her approach to early orthodontic treatment is intended to address developing malocclusion before it becomes more complex when intervention is appropriate. In selected patients, treatment may help reduce the likelihood of future extractions, impacted teeth or surgical treatment.

Dr. Reddy also regularly provides dentofacial orthopedic treatment to guide jaw growth and facial development. She uses appliances such as the Carriere® Distalizer™ for selected Class II malocclusions and the Herbst appliance for patients with a retrognathic lower jaw when appropriate. In some patients, growth modification may help improve jaw relationships and reduce the need for more invasive treatment later.

Surgical and Complex Orthodontics

Dr. Reddy regularly prepares and manages orthodontic cases that require surgical intervention. She coordinates care with oral and maxillofacial surgeons and plastic surgeons for patients undergoing jaw surgery and manages the orthodontic component of treatment before and after surgical correction.

Her more complex cases include surgical orthodontic cases, retrognathic jaw cases and impacted canine cases. She also reports regularly treating difficult orthodontic cases referred by other providers and frequently providing second opinions.

Dr. Reddy’s treatment philosophy incorporates both tooth position and facial balance. Her goal is to create broad, full smiles that complement the patient’s facial proportions and support a balanced facial appearance.

Sleep and Airway-Related Orthodontic Care

Dr. Reddy evaluates and treats obstructive sleep apnea and sleep-related breathing concerns in children, teens and adults when orthodontic treatment may be appropriate. Her approach may include orthodontic treatment intended to support airway development and address contributing dentofacial relationships.

Retainers, Sports Mouth Guards and Long-Term Stability

Dr. Reddy provides retainers and replacement retainers, including for patients who completed orthodontic treatment at another practice. Digital scanning and in-office 3D-printing capabilities also allow the practice to create orthodontic appliances such as retainers and custom sports mouth guards.

She emphasizes long-term stability following orthodontic treatment, recommending lifelong retainer wear and offers a retainer replacement program to help patients maintain their results.

During active treatment, she also places a strong emphasis on oral hygiene. Patients in braces are encouraged to maintain regular dental cleanings, often every three to four months when appropriate, and receive oral-hygiene instruction during orthodontic appointments.

Digital Orthodontics and In-Office Technology

Technology has been part of Dr. Reddy’s orthodontic practice throughout her career. The practice has used digital 2D imaging since opening in 2005 and has incorporated 3D imaging into orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. Digital scans have been used for patients since 2020. The practice uses a Medit intraoral scanner, digital treatment-planning technology and SprintRay 3D printers.

VV Orthodontics uses 3D printing to fabricate clear aligners, retainers and custom sports mouth guards in-house. Digital technology is also used to evaluate orthodontic treatment and assist with treatment planning.

Dr. Reddy describes her approach as combining accurate treatment planning, digital records, light orthodontic forces and current technology to make treatment more customized, efficient and convenient for patients.

Continuing Education and Professional Contributions

Dr. Reddy remains actively engaged in continuing orthodontic education and reports completing more than 350 hours of clinical continuing education, including more than 350 hours of orthodontic continuing education.

She regularly participates in study clubs, workshops, continuing education programs and national dental and orthodontic meetings. She also conducts study-club education for dentists, dental hygienists and dental assistants and helps train dental assistants during their internships.

Dr. Reddy is a scientific and clinical author whose work has appeared in Orthotown Magazine. Her published clinical articles include molar substitution using microscrews and microscrew-assisted correction of Class II malocclusion in an adult patient. She has also reported an additional publication planned for January 2027.

Professional Memberships and Recognition

Dr. Reddy maintains memberships in several professional dental and orthodontic organizations, including the American Association of Orthodontists, Texas Dental Association, Texas Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association®, Southwestern Society of Orthodontics and San Antonio District Dental Society.

Her professional recognition includes being named a Top Orthodontist in San Antonio by San Antonio Magazine in 2007 and 2010. She also reports receiving the Texas Monthly Top Dentist honor every year since 2016.

Commitment to the San Antonio Community

Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Reddy has maintained a longstanding commitment to community service. She has served as a mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Texas-San Antonio and established a charitable program providing complimentary orthodontic treatment to a deserving child each year.

She has also helped organize dental camps to increase awareness of orthodontic care and has visited San Antonio schools during career and health days to educate children about oral health.
